Online Presentation Exposing Illegal Stock Market Manipulators Hits 250,000th Download
As a key tactic in his battle against illegal stock market manipulators, in January of 2006, Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne wrote and narrated an educational online presentation. Recently that presentation was downloaded for the 250,000th time.
(PRWEB) August 2, 2006 -- Judd Bagley, VP of Social Media at PRWeb and producer of the Business Jive Podcast, announced that the landmark anti-stock market manipulation presentation, known as Darkside of the Looking Glass, would soon be downloaded for the 250,000th time.
Business Jive hosts the online slideshow, which was written, narrated and produced by Patrick Byrne, CEO of Overstock.com. Byrne is an outspoken opponent of the illegal and destructive stock trading practice that has come to be known in finance circles as “naked short selling” or “failure to deliver.”
“When I created this presentation seven months ago, I hoped that a few people might see it to learn about the risk this problem poses to our markets,” Byrne said. “Nothing could have prepared me for what has since transpired, as the presentation has gone on to be viewed by members of Congress, federal regulators and law enforcement, executive leadership of other companies under attack by naked short sellers, and perhaps most importantly, hundreds of thousands of investors."
Byrne says the presentation has served to expose a formerly murky and frequently doubted phenomenon, and the result has been a united effort in favor of the sort of regulatory change needed to end it. Most notably, congressional committees have heard testimony on the subject and the Securities and Exchange Commission has amended regulations intended to reduce market manipulation through naked shorting.
As explained in the presentation, this insidious form of stock market manipulation is thought by some experts to have destroyed hundreds of promising American companies, if not more, while enriching a small number of criminals beyond belief.
